PPS Construction Bond

Come to our PTA meeting this coming Thursday, January 26th to learn more about the school construction bond options. Public comments are being taken soon before the board makes final decisions in February. Please take a few minutes to review the bond options and proposed timeline below. Brian Hoop, our Legislative Chair will be at our meeting this week to discuss in further detail as well as answer any questions. Prioritized Health & Safety Projects may include projects in the following areas:

  • Water Quality
  • Lead-Based Paint
  • Asbestos
  • Seismic

  • Fire/Life Safety Alarms & Sprinklers
  • Radon
  • Auditorium Stage Safety
  • ADA

Health & Safety projects will be prioritized in several scenarios for public discussion, including:

  • Catastrophic Risk
  • Public Awareness
  • Operational Savings
  • Economy of Scale/Cluster of Risks
  • Readily Achievable

January 6: PPS Bond Stakeholder Advisory Group Meeting #1 – background and framework for bond and development options

January 20: Bond options posted online at pps.net

January 24: Board Bond Work Session with presentation on health and safety prioritization and school modernization projects. Presentation of four bond options.

January 25: Online survey on four bond options opens

January 25: PPS Bond Stakeholder Advisory Group Meeting #2 – presentation of four bond options and beginning of discussion

February 1: PPS Bond Stakeholder Advisory Group Meeting #3 – continue discussion of four bond options and finalize feedback to the Board

February 7: Board Public Hearing on bond options

February 10: Online survey closes

February 13: Board Bond Work Session with presentation of all community feedback (including survey results); discussion of bond options

February 21: Board Bond referral vote

May 16: Election Day


How to Provide Feedback on Bond Options:

  • Testify at the February 7 Board Bond Public Hearing – 6pm, BESC, 501 N. Dixon
  • Email Bond2017@pps.net
  • Share feedback with PPS representatives presenting at Community Organization and PTA meetings throughout January and February  (email Bond2017@pps.net to set up a presentation)
  • Participate in the online bond survey at pps.net (January 25 – February 10)

Bond Stakeholder Advisory Group: BSAG will meet three times to discuss the bond options and provide feedback to the Board (public meetings at Blanchard Education Service Center, 501 N. Dixon):

  • Friday, January 6, 3-5pm
  • Wednesday, January 25, 6-8pm
  • Wednesday, February 1, 6-8pm

The holiday season is upon us and what better way to kick it off than to support our local families! In an effort to raise funds for our school food backpack program, local vendors have come together to share their special wares with YOU this holiday season in our first ever Holiday Pop-Up Shop! Proceeds from the raffle sale will go directly to OUR families and help them fill their fridges and bellies this holiday season with fresh food. Please share with your family and friends and make this event a SUCCESS! You can also download a flyer to print and share!

Lego Robotics

Are you interested in Lego Robotics? Skyline’s Radioactive Robots Reborn invite you to an open house Dec. 6 in the Skyline Gym to learn about the FIRST Lego League.  We will present the program and answer questions. Students, parents, and teachers are all invited. We hope to see you then!

Just a reminder that our monthly PTA meeting is this evening at 6pm, we will have a guest speaker from Lice Knowing You come to speak to our families about lice treatment, myths and answer any questions. Our next meeting won’t be until after the New Year. Reserve FREE childcare by emailing Chris Sugura by 3pm today, pizza dinner provided for kids and snacks for meeting attendees.

    Is your child interested in CHESS? Our own Nick Diana (8th grader) is putting together a team. If your child would like to participate in the Tournament on Saturday, please register by TODAY, Thursday, November 17th by 9pm.
    A few words from Nick:

I am trying to make a Skyline chess team, in order to be a team I need four people at a tournament. I will hold pre-tournament meetings to ensure that everyone knows the rules. The following is a list of tournaments I will participate in and would love if you joined:

April 15 Catlin Gabel Chess Festival in Portland

Book Fair-Volunteers Needed

Our Scholastic Book Fair is underway and we had a
BOOM this morning!

Kids were waiting in line to buy their most treasured books before they sold out on the shelves. Many kids fill out wish lists to share with you at home.

Our Book Fair will continue through 8pm Thursday evening!!

We aligned it with conferences this year so you have a chance to shop with your child while you find out all the good news from their teacher, including their reading level! What better way to support their accomplishments than with a book or two!
We are still in need of some VOLUNTEERS to keep our Book Fair open!!! Please consider signing up for a slot. Help kids and parents check out their treasures! Cash, check and credit cards accepted. Current slots still in need of help:

No School November:

Well, No School November is upon us and kicks off with NO SCHOOL TOMORROW! The continuing trend of no school continues throughout the month, days off for kids are:

  • Friday, November 4th ~ Teacher Grading Day
  • Wednesday & Thursday, November 9-10th ~ Conferences
  • Friday, November 11th ~ Veteran’s Day
  • Wednesday – Friday, November 23rd-25th ~ Thanksgiving Break

Please ensure kids are at school while healthy, learning time is crucial especially with so many breaks. All of our dates are up to date on the Skyline PTA Calendar.

Scholastic Book Fair:

Our Scholastic Book Fair kicks off next week and will run through conferences! Classroom teachers will let you know if their class will be attending the fair either Monday or Tuesday. The fair will also be open before school, after school and during conference hours so stop in and do some holiday shopping or fulfill a wishlist. Do you have a little time to spare? Consider signing up for a shift or two to help out!

There are lots of areas to explore on the PTA blog/website. Check out all our current events on our Skyline School Calendar. You can even sync your personal Google calendar to show all these events in the palm of your hand!

  • Open Google Calendar.
  • On the left side, find “Other calendars” and click the down arrow .
  • Select Add by URL.
