Back to School Pizza with Principal
Thursday, August 23rd
Come to Skyline’s first ever Back-to-School Pizza Night with Principal Aguirre and teachers!
Elementary and 7th/8th graders can chat with Principal Aguirre, meet teacher(s), visit classroom(s), and drop off school supplies. Incoming 6th graders and new middle school students will participate in “middle school boot camp” in the library.
Incoming kindergartners, this is our last official play date of the summer! Introduce yourselves to another family, catch up with those you met in June, meet Mrs. Porter, and visit the classroom.

Back to School Mom’s Hike

After the kiddos are settled in, and you have grabbed a bite in the library, join Abbey Poizer and other Skyline moms on a four-mile hike through Forest Park, followed by lunch at the Skyline Tavern. Don’t hike? Join us for lunch! Bring a water bottle and let Abbey know if you are sticking around for lunch so she can let the Tav know (email: firstname.lastname@example.org).

This Skyline tradition is not to be missed! Join us for our 47th annual community festival filled with live music by the Ron Murvihill Band, games and crafts for the kids, the sale of Skyline t-shirts, a produce sale and exchange, a delicious chicken meal, and FREE all-you-can-eat corn. Bring your own picnic blanket & chairs, and help us maintain our green status by bringing your own plates and utensils. See y’all there!
This is the time to apply for free/reduced lunch for the school year. Often times folks may not even realize they qualify. All the information is confidential and processed through the district level. Why is it important? The number of students that qualify are a direct impact to funding for our school. As our percentage of those qualified increases, the possibility to receive funding (such as Title 1) increases. So take a minute, read through the details. If you qualify, your information remains confidential! Not only are you eligible for free/reduced lunch at school but many city and local programs offer discounts for qualified families. It’s that time of year, first day of spring is TOMORROW!!!!!! We have a wonderful fundraiser to help with your spring fever! Time to start planning that flower and vegetable garden, or pickup some hanging baskets for Mother’s Day.
Our plant orders come from New Leaf Greenhouse, click on the link to view the full array of flowers and vegetable packs to choose from, like these Zonal Geraniums.
You can find order forms on the bulletin board outside the school office, there is also a catalog of plants and flowers to peruse as well, or view online.
This is a great one to share with friends and neighbors, especially those with a green thumb! ORDER FORMS ARE DUE ON APRIL 12TH! You can email a completed form to Michelle Posey and pay the PTA via PayPal (please note “plant sale” in comments), or leave your order form and check in the office payable to SKYLINE PTA. PLANTS WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR PICKUP ON FRIDAY MAY 4TH FROM 12:30-4:00.

Every year, brilliant minds come to together to conjure up an amazing theme that will wow the crowds. From Back to the Future, Secret Garden, Harry Potter, Charlotte’s Web, Dr. Seuss, Grease and this year Masquerade Ball! What better theme for our first official OFFSITE auction!

As a cornerstone of the Skyline auction, the Community Parties are something to look forward to every year. Community Parties are hosted by our own Skyline families and teachers. These great events bring friends and strangers alike together, strengthening our little community and forging lasting relationships that move far beyond just funding education. With so many amazing experiences to choose from, you may just sign-up for them all!! Our community parties not only bring families together but they are a huge part of our auction bringing in $12,000 ALONE last year.

Did I mention there would be dessert? Yes! We rely on YOU to bring some of your BEST desserts to the event, homemade or store bought. People bid on their favorites and win them to enjoy eating during the live auction. What better way to enjoy the live auction than eating an entire cake with your friends? How would you like to win a Wall of Wine? Or a Barrel o’ Beer? Yes, a wall of 100 wines and a barrel of 200 bottles of beer. That should be enough to get you through to spring. Don’t delay getting your tickets at check-in to enter these one of a kind raffles. We have some special Masquerade Wines this year as well and more beer than we know what to do with! A special of 2 BARRELS will be auctioned off as well as our Wall of Wine!

Heads or Tails? Can you make the right call? Our first year playing this fun game during our auction event. Buy your bead necklaces at check-in for your chance to play Heads or Tails! Wear your necklace then choose to put your hands on your “head” or “tail”, coin is flipped and if you’re hands are in the right place, stay standing and play the next round, if not, remove your beads. Play until you run out of beads! Winner will take home a $250 Visa Gift Card!
The big bang of the night! LIVE AUCTION! We have an auctioneer that leads this event with big tickets items like the coveted parking spots. Your kid could be Principal for the Day or Page for a Day getting a chance to work with Senator Johnson! And vacations, we have beautiful vacation homes that are auctioned off! What better way to donate to our school by also winning a vacation or private parking! Other big ticket items including Sporting Events and a trip to Disney!
Join us after the Live Auction and Dinner for an After Party in the Chalet. Bar will be open, music playing, snacks to munch on and you dancing!
We are beyond excited to share this amazing event with you this year. We hope this gives you a glimpse into our amazing event that is not only a way to raise funds for our school but one of the best experiences to build and foster friendships and relationships within the community.

If you make a donation during the Skyline Foundation’s Paddle Bid or you pay more than fair market value for any item during the auction or have made a donation to the Skyline Foundation/Skyline PTA, the donation is tax deductible to the extend permitted by tax law. The usual requirement is that the donation be at least $25. You do not need to have a child attending Skyline School.

So if you’re anything like me, it’s 8:00pm the night before school and I have nothing done! Truth be told, I literally just deboarded a plane, trying to get kids in the shower, pull out the outfit I thought would be a good first day of school outfit from the top of some suitcase and scrambling to get school supplies packed and some sort of lunch together.
But it’s okay! It’ll all be okay! Kids will get to school (at somepoint), they’ll be mostly rested, they’ll get lunch even if I do start the year off with a PB&J (will you judge me??) So whatever is happening this evening, take a deep breath, enjoy the last moments with your kiddos and ship them off to our amazing fabulous staff tomorrow morning.
If you’re kids are NOT in bed yet (mine aren’t…yikes) sit down, read The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn or your favorite back to school book and enjoy the last moments with your kiddos!

Parking on the first day of school can be a challenge! Please be mindful of children and buses. Parking tends to be limited so be patient. Also, the auction committee would like to remind you that the reserved parking spots in our lot should not be used by anyone other than those families with their names on the signs. These families have paid for the privilege to park in these spots at last year’s auction. Please be considerate when dropping off or picking up your children. Thank you!
Middle school students should report to the GYM tomorrow morning!
Bus Transportation Update:
Student Transportation has made changes to Routes 21, 27, 29 and 30 over the last few days in order to better serve students and families. If your student rides this route, please visit our website to ensure you have the correct stop time for your bus stop.

We are just about 2 weeks away from the start of the school year! Are you ready? Are the kids ready? While I have enjoyed the summer, I’m also ready to get my kids back into some sort of routine. I think we’re driving each other BONKERS!
With the start of the school year comes so much information!!! I hope these emails find you well and relaxed as the sun is still shining. I like to share as much as I can with you before things get hectic, like they always do come September. A few things to have on your radar as we approach the start of the year.
Skyline PTA President
Kinder/1st Grade and New Family Play date:
We love kicking off the school year mixing and mingling with our new families and especially our little kinders! Join us at the school playground for some play, snacks and conversation on Thursday, August 17th from 2:00-4:00pm. All families are welcome and we strongly encourage families with kindergartners and first graders to attend. Help welcome our new families and our newest additions to Skyline!
If you have some time on Wednesday, August 23rd from 9:00-11:00am, we’re looking for folks to help with our envelope stuffing. We need a team that can work hard and fast to get all the paperwork stuffed to send home with kiddos on the first day of school. You can sign-up to bring along some breakfast goodies or come and help on our sign-up link. Thank you all in advance for helping!!
Community Care Day:
Our school-wide Community Care Day is set for Saturday, August 26th from 9:00am-12:00pm. Here are a few words from our Skyline Stewards Chair, Jinnet Powel:
I’ve been pretty casual about planning this year because our awesome community always comes though and it works out just fine. But recently, every year, turn-out has been a bit lower than the previous year. Let’s turn that around!
- So grab your garden tools, gloves, shovels, rakes, water bottle and hat. Lather up on sunscreen. There will both light and heavy work – so something for everyone.
- Come meet the new Principal (let’s not leave her hanging)
- Connect with new families and retell your summer adventure stories. Besides, if we’re there it will mean we survived the Solar Eclipse!
- Family friendly event, everyone is welcome!
- Also looking for up to 2 people to bring gas powered weed-whips (edging weeds around building), up to 3 wheelbarrows (we’ve got 2 at the school), and a person to bring a tall, stable step-ladder for trimming the really tall shrubs. Contact Jinnet directly if you can help with any tools!

PTA President Elect:
I’ll be honest, we’re in dire straits for a PTA President Elect. We’re looking for a dynamic individual that will shadow me this year and then take over as PTA President for the 2 following years. I will tell you from personal experience, it was SOOOO helpful to shadow the sitting President before taking over. It made the transition much easier. Please let me know if you have any interest, happy to chat over coffee, my treat!
Directory Spot (URGENT):
Looking for someone to work on our school directory. It would entail compiling and exporting it to our online directory source. The process will be much easier than years past and can mainly be done at home. This is an URGENT position as paperwork needs to be prepared prior to the start of school.
PTA Meeting Caregiver (College students/Grandparents?):
Attend monthly PTA meetings to cover childcare. We ideally would like 2 adults for this position. Could be a grandparent, college student, local community member, etc. We are able to gift a $25 gift card for service, usually in the form of a Fred Meyer gift card. Meetings start at 6pm and go until about 8-8:30 (end of Foundation meeting).
